After reading joke books at the library all morning, Mary and Dad raced home for lunch. They passed a pair of ducks at Big Bill's Bakery.
"I wonder what ducks eat for lunch?" Mary asked.
Big Bill smiled at the ducks. "Doughnuts?"
The ducks shook their heads and marched up the sidewalk.
"Maybe ducks need teeth to have a sweet tooth," Big Bill said.
"I have a sweet tooth," Mary said. She followed Dad and Big Bill and the ducks to Carlotta's Cafe.
"Chocolate milk?" Carlotta asked the ducks.
The ducks shook their heads and marched up the sidewalk.
"Maybe their beaks won't fit in the glass," Carlotta said.
"My beak would fit," Mary said. She followed Dad and Big Bill and Carlotta and the ducks to Gertrude's Grocery.
    "Apples?" Gertrude asked the ducks.
The ducks shook their heads and marched up the sidewalk.
"Maybe they thought my apples had worms," Gertrude said.
"I wouldn't mind a few worms," Mary said.
She followed Dad and Big Bill and Carlotta and Gertrude to Pete's Pretty Good Pizzeria...
