"Pizza?" Pete asked the ducks. The ducks shook their heads and marched up the sidewalk. "Maybe they prefer pretty great pizza," Pete said. "Pretty good sounds pretty great," Mary said. She followed Dad and Big Bill and Carlotta and Gertrude and Pete and the ducks to Fran's Five and Dime. "Lollipops?" Fran asked the ducks. The ducks shook their heads and hopped off the sidewalk. A few minutes later the woman left the park. "They love day-old bread," she told Mary. "So do I," Mary said. She watched the ducks scoop up the last of the crumbs. They quacked and flew over the trees. "Now we know what ducks eat for lunch," Dad said. "And what they don't eat," Mary said... |
